. 36 1/2 d.e blade. Broad cross guard with swelled down turned terminals and oval ring guard. Spirally fluted inverted pear shaped pommel. Leather covered hock bottle grip with transverse rolls to the top and medial to position the hands and improve grip. Classic arming sword (sword worn with and designed to combat armor) of the period. All metal shows smooth gray patina. Grip sound and leather covering complete. The ring guard attached by brazing with additional pinned connection-that feature probably a repair or modification during its working life. Evidently refurbished in the Victorian period as many of these were. The ring guard possibly a modification from that process. A handsome well proportioned sword at a fraction of the cost of an untouched example.
