EUROPEAN HALBERD C.1650-1700.

Probably German Iron head with intricately pierced axe blade and back fluke, each with stylized bird head scrolls. Ridged socket stepped below the medial ridged spear point. 9 1/2" length on original haft with carved faceted conical butt. Later, probably Victorian, red and green tassel, possible renewed during its period of use over a set of later faceted head nails. The head with fine age patina, rich brown over light oxidation texture. Two small edge chips to the spear point and forged lamination seam to the socket base. The haft with surface blemishes as expected and four plugged holes from previous mounting for display. Very impressive.
