84 1/4" length. One piece wood haft with rounded end cylindrical form head set with eight rows of pyramidal spikes. The top with circular iron plate surrounding triangular forespike. Sound and complete. The haft with some lineal age cracks, retaining considerable heavy black preservative (probably pitch) throughout. Few minor blemishes and actually shows smooth wear to the mid haft from handling and use. See Stone Fig. 374 No. 5 for a very similar example dated to the 15th Century. Examples with circular section heads such as these are universally deemed to be the earliest form.
