CONFEDERATE GRAPE SHOT

Item Number: d65
Battle of Atlanta. Have four examples, each an extraordinary testament to the Confederate spirit and ingenuity. Each about 1 1/4” diameter, cast iron. With a shortage of standard foundry patterns to make the molds, these are each significantly out of round. Close examination, shows that each was made using a beeswax pattern to form the mold cavity. The shapes are not random but clearly were made by rolling a wax ball in the hands to approximately spherical form. That process results in flatter faces conforming to the hand and is easily verified by duplication. Extremely rare. Each.
