17th-18th century. Large size. 21” diameter, thick hide, domed form with upturned edge. Four iron domed boss anchoring the grips and knuckle pad on the reveres (both complete and a little tattered). The edge with double pierced holes for hanging. Well preserved for the period with some flaking to the back as expected. Worn into battle on the back to protect against the initial hail of arrows, then gripped for the hand to hand fight
