A RARE SCOTTISH REGIMENTAL DIRK EARLY 19TH CENTURY
Item Number: GC.A.038
This dirk served an officer of a Scottish regiment in the English Army, perhaps during the Napoleonic Wars. Its hilt combines traditional Scottish styling with faceted iron studs intended to glitter in candle lit social events. Its blade is finely etched with trophies of arms, foliage and thistle to the back. The front is decorated with a thistle and foliage among which runs a ribbon inscribed Kennedy Manufacturer, No. 53 Loveday St., Birmingham & at Mr. Tapolettes Little Britian London. Another example of this pattern by the same maker is known. It is identical in detail but for silver numerals, 42 (42 Highland Regiment, The Black Watch) mounted at the base of the grip. Richard Kennedy established in Birmingham in 1810.
Blade length: 13 1/2"
