A masterwork of the blacksmiths art. Made of eleven separate elements comprising a compound broad band ankle shackle, deeply banded and chisel decorated in double hounds tooth patterns and a split shackle with Arab form triangular section drum lock with four external reinforcing bands. Three piece connector, each of a half twist figure eight link in pyramidal encasement with chiseled bands and panels to each face. Just under 7 pound weight to prevent escape. The ornamentation an indication of the prosperity of the slavers. Fine uniform rich glossy chocolate patina throughout with old encrustation to the shackles. Enormous character and presence. Worthy of museum display.
