COLONIAL AMERICAN SNUFF BOX

Revolutionary War period. 3 1/4” length of black japanned papier-mâché. The lid inlaid with a pewter border and central medallion (complete). Excellent preservation with aroma of snuff inside. Pewter foil inlay on a black japanned body is the most common construction and takes many forms. These were used to carry snuff or pipe tobacco interchangeably.
